A dawn display on the Ole Miss campus involved 35 students at James Meredith’s apartment site. A dummy with a disgraceful banner drew federal force attention as enrollment dropped after riots.
The James Wood Colonels will play John S. Mosby Academy in Front Royal Friday night at Bing Crosby Stadium starting at 8 o'clock. The forecast calls for possible scattered showers tomorrow afternoon and mild temperatures around 66 today and 51 at night.
James H Meredith begins his third day of classes at the University of Mississippi under federal marshals. The 29 year old, the first known Negro student, endures guarded entrances, mixed greetings, and jeers as federal authorities push for gradual acceptance and equality in higher education.
Senator Byrd attacks the use of federal troops to admit a Negro student to the University of Mississippi. He accuses the judiciary of colluding with the executive to enforce federal orders, citing past desegregation actions and warning of bloodshed and constitutional imbalance. Additional Virginia lawmakers join in the criticism.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk told Latin American ministers at a 20 nation inter American conference dinner that Soviet Premier Khrushchev holds the power to end conflict by choosing to live at peace. Rusk tied U S strength to defending the Western Hemisphere in the global struggle. He contrasted peaceful cooperation with nations seeking a different world where freedom has no place.

An early afternoon boiler room blast at a New York Telephone Co. building in Manhattan's Inwood section killed about 20, mostly women, and injured around 70 as rubble trapped others. Firefighters and emergency crews battled flames and coordinated rescue efforts at Broadway and 213th Street.

CAPE CANAVERAL Fla AP Astronaut Walter M Schirra Jr completes his fourth orbit of the world marking a new American space flight distance surpassing 140000 miles. The Sigma 7 craft whirled through the third and into the fourth orbit as he aimed to complete the mission and keep pace with Soviet lunar efforts.
Mrs. Walter M. Schirra Jr and family monitored the Atlas flight as Schirra completed a successful second orbit aboard Sigma 7. The Houston household awaited recovery with the son noting he would miss school to watch.
A public hearing is scheduled in Gore tomorrow to discuss plans to divide a two mile section of U S Route 50 east of Gore from the east end to near State Route 259. Three lines of work are proposed east of Gore and one line west with final decisions by the highway department.
The Winchester Frederick County Safety Committee sponsors a program on Teen-Age Drivers and Their Parents at the War Memorial Building tomorrow at 8 p.m. Harleysville Mutual’s Thomas Andress will speak and show a teen driving film. Mayor Claude B. Smalts will launch the meeting. The event targets teens who drive but is open to all. The committee aims to promote safety through education and to form a permanent safety organization with officers to be elected at an upcoming meeting.
At least two residents, C. Ridgely White an insurance executive and city manager, and Lee Grant, met Astronaut Walter M. Schirra Jr. White owns a Florida cottage where the spaceman stayed while in Cocoa Beach for the visit.
AP reports a 24 hour rail strike stopped all British trains and the London subway keeping thousands home. A.N.U.R. protests government plans to close workshops amid steam to diesel switchover risking about 33 000 jobs with a threat of further action.
