State Inspected Apple Barrels Progress in Frederick County
The Frederick County Fruitgrowers Association, led by president 4H. DeGrange, starts a State Inspected fruit barrel program. 25 to 30 members join the service with three inspectors examining daily and barrels stamped State Inspected if rules are met. Costs 2 to 3 cents per barrel, funded by the association and charged to members. This local experiment aims to standardize grades, boost sales, and set a model for other districts to compete with western boxed fruit.

Fire Destroys Kitchen Farm Barn and Wheat
A large bank barn on Mrs. M. C. Kitchen’s farm southeast of the city, plus a corn house and outbuildings, were wiped out by fire last Tuesday evening. Machinery, hay, straw, fertilizer, and 150 bushels of seed wheat valued at 225 dollars were lost. the wheat was of high quality and intended for seeding. The fire started in the barn’s weather boarding near the wheat granary and burned for days. no insurance had been carried. The barn, built years ago by Marple Brothers, was one of the area’s best.

The Main Street sewer clogged briefly causing basement flooding. The problem was fixed within an hour and the basement banking room was cleaned and dried. The bank will return to the basement after a short stay in the new upstairs banking room. An automatic trap will be installed to prevent future trouble.

Seven Indictments Returned by Frederick County Grand Jury
The grand jury at Frederick County's Cir cuit Court returned seven indictments at the October term. Six indictments name Richard Bogginson Herman Wilson John Hamilton Harry Lynch Alfred Lewis and Clyde Cook accused of feloniously wounding Stuart Whettell in Clearbrook after a Winchester horse show, with three counts each. Two defendants are jailed in Hagerstown and the others at large. The seventh indictment accuses Ernest Kitchen of possessing a still with bail set at 500 dollars.
