Fisherman Attacked by Swordfish Off Baja Heads to San Diego Hospital
Miguel F. Pereira 47 was yanked overboard by a swordfish and speared through the body during a Baja California fishing trip. He survived a 500 mile flight to reach the U S Naval Hospital San Diego in satisfactory condition though not yet ready to talk. The Coast Guard said the fish swam away after wounding him with its bill entering on the right side above the hip and exiting on the left side. Swordfish typically weigh 200 to 500 pounds.
