Lynching of Leonard Woods by armed mob in Kentucky hills
In Jenkins Kentucky November 30 an armed mob of over 200 men seized Leonard Woods after his arrest for the murder of Harshell Deaton. Woods was shot as he stood before a rifle line, then his body was burned on a platform at the Kentucky Virginia highway opening. A motorcade of cars arrived in Whitesburg as the mob freed him.
