Thanksgiving snowstorm winds down across the nation
Heavy snow and icy conditions disrupted travel from Michigan to Tennessee during the Thanksgiving period. The National Weather Service cited rapid movement of the storm through New Jersey and other areas. More than 460 people died on highways nationwide, with the Midwest New York Pennsylvania regions hit hard. Detroit area reported six inches at the airport and slick streets, while Caryville Tennessee faced stranded motorists and packed motels. Snow remained in parts of New York Pennsylvania New England with West Coast winds and power outages. A Christmas parade in Winchester Virginia featured Santa Claus amid the storm cleanup.
