Six Virginias deaths during the Thanksgiving holiday period are reported,: two in traffic crashes, two in fires, and two from other causes. Separate highway fatalities bring the year’s toll to 667, with 739 at the same point last year. Donald Wayne Presson, 3, of Boydton, was killed when a pickup was rear ended on U S 58.
Edward Skyles of Shenandoah County returns from a hunting trip with a freshly cleaned squirrel in his pickup. Roy E. Smith of White Post checks a 6 point buck from his bedroom window in Clarke and Frederick Counties. A turkey near Gore dents a car trunk, and a bobcat found dead behind Amherst Street was a smaller, tailless specimen.
AP bulletin reports Ralph Anderson, star end for the Los Angeles Chargers, found dead at a girlfriend's home. A diabetic attack is suspected. he had battled the disease for years and missed a New York game on November 4 after slipping into a coma. He was 25 and stood 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 225 pounds. He was a Los Angeles State College graduate and leading pass catcher for the team.
The U S economic mission led by Robert B Anderson returns to New York after talks in Bonn Paris and London seeking to ease U S gold drain and win British support. Britain promised backing for NATO cost sharing while criticizing West Germany for not contributing to U S forces in the country.
The nation’s highway death toll surpassed 200 as Thanksgiving travelers filled weekend traffic. The toll reached 223 with the four day period half gone, plus 35 fire deaths and 62 other accidental deaths totaling 320. The National Safety Council cautioned traffic during Thanksgiving isn’t as heavy as other holidays and did not estimate fatalities for the period.
In Hong Kong AP report the Communist party Chinese press criticizes comic book endings that favor good men, warns against capitalist illusion, urges adherence to Marx Lenin Mao theory, notes high circulation and calls for educational use by workers and youth.
A stubborn fire of undetermined origin destroyed the vacant Trafton Chalfonte hotel in Virginia Beach early today. About 50 regular and volunteer firefighters fought the blaze, which left a hollow shell of the three story structure. Owner Mrs Lucy F Trafton put losses at several hundred thousand dollars. No injuries reported and insurance covered the 50 room hotel. Fire Chief E B Bayne explored arson as a possible cause while investigators probed the scene.
President-elect John F Kennedy met with advisers on cabinet and high posts while telephoning committees across the country. He visited Jacqueline Kennedy and baby John at Georgetown Hospital, then golfed at Burning Tree with Senator George Smathers as Churchill sent a congratulatory message.

Frederick reports 916 (485 bucks 431 does) and Clarke 109 (62 bucks 47 does), plus several turkeys. Shenandoah and Warren totals push four county area to 3829. Delegates from 15 NATO nations urged creating a mobile nuclear capable fire brigade for defense against Communist threats. They want NATO political control of atomic weapons and delivery systems, with use to require higher level approval and not imply a fourth atomic power. They also called for tighter weapons cooperation and economic cohesion within the alliance.

Elisabethville reports a two hour meeting among central government ministers and Katanga leader Moise Tshombe achieving a near agreement on Congo internal affairs. A round table conference on the future political structure is likely to be held in Elisabethville next month.
President Eisenhower dismissed Sekou Toure’s Nov 20 protest that U.S. policy favored Congo opponents of African emancipation. He said the U.S. supports emancipation for all peoples and braces Congo unity, asserting Guinea’s stance aligns with the Soviet bloc and Lumumba. The White House released the cable reply.
