Pay Adjustment Permit Given To Va Woolen
The Regional War Labor Board in Atlanta approved a Virginia Woolen Company petition to raise wages to address certain differentials. The net payroll increase is about 9 percent, mainly affecting workers in the lower wage bracket, and the new pay scales took effect the first period after November 22. Cpl Arthur C McDonald has spent 20 months in Australia and New Guinea with the U S Army and is on a 4 week convalescence furlough with his mother at 314 East Piccadilly Street. He will return to Ashburn General Hospital in McKinney Texas. He served six months in New Guinea from February to August and contracted malaria and scrub typhus, with malaria recurrences prompting his evacuation. He is brother to Miss McDonald a Handley High School senior and to Kenneth McDonald of Williamsport Md.

Paul Cather Found Dead At Star Fort With Shotgun Note
Paul Cather about 45 was found dead at Star Fort this morning around 11 15. The body showed a shotgun wound to the chin with the weapon noted as a single barrel .12 gauge. Coroner Dr H I Pifer began an investigation as police secured the scene and learned of Cather’s relatives including a sister Mrs Frank E Amick and half brother Marvin Adams. Funeral plans had not been completed.
