H F Byrd Virginia state fuel administrator outlines plans to regulate retail coal and wood prices. He reports gathering data with local fuel commissions to set gross margins for retailers in Virginia and notes contracts issued before the President's price fixing proclamation remain in effect.
Three sermons were delivered at the First Christian Church revival. Dr. I. W. Johnson spoke on God's Love in the morning, Three Slackers in the afternoon, and When the Boy Comes Home in the evening. Two converts were won. services run nightly through Thursday with a special tomorrow for old people.
Three garbage truck workers were instantly killed at the Illinois Central grade crossing at Perryville, five miles from Rockford, when their vehicle was struck by the eastbound Omaha Express. They were hauling garbage from a military camp to a distant farm.
Notice calls all members of Shawnee Tribe No. 2 to present on Tuesday night November 27 for important business. Also notes a lost overcoat between the post office and Rouss Garage with a reward at Star Office.
Loganport Ind reported Frank Warner son of Monticello ex sheriff poured gasoline over his wife and children and burned his house and forage in Walcott Ind then fired on arriving firemen. Ten to twelve men were shot and Warner is thought insane.
A morning blaze on the Everhart place in Clarke county destroyed a 50 by 80 foot barn, a silo, six tons of cotton seed meal, 400 bushels of unthreshed wheat, and tools. Horses and livestock were saved. Loss estimated at about 6100, partly insured, with efforts to rebuild soon. The fire started in the hay mow, possibly from a threshing engine spark, and drew attention across Winchester.

Washington Nov 26 The pooling plan uniting eastern railroads into a single system is to relieve fuel and food shortages. Operating vice presidents begin the setup, with equipment and crews already en route to congested centers. Cars now idle on sidings will move to destinations to restore order.
The First Troop of Boy Scouts hosts a Thanksgiving cake sale on Wednesday November 28 from 1 to 6 PM at Bell Brothers former business. The sale offers citywide cake delivery and accepts orders from those unable to attend.
Thanksgiving night and Saturday December 1 give Frederick and Clarke County residents a chance to support the Roues Firemen's Minstrels at the Auditorium. Mrs Gore and a large cast lead a planned local entertainment with tickets selling at Hahles store starting 10 a.m. Tuesday. A big street parade at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving precedes the program with an orchestra accompanying the performances. Proceeds aim to fund a new hook and ladder truck for the Rouse Fire Company.
Clinton C. Athey, a chauffeur, is jailed on a warrant from his wife accusing him of mistreating her. He will have a hearing before Justice Fultz at 7 this evening in the police court. Oysters available for Thanksgiving orders via Bell Phone 277.
British troops in front of Cambrai fought the German base to a standstill and held their gains in Bourlon village and Bourlon wood. Artillery duelling raged at Passchendaele on the Flanders front. Mrs. Sue Davis and relatives are visiting in Washington and Baltimore, while Mr. Charles R. Keeler was in Chartestown on business.
Captain Arthur Hunt Chute of the Canadian army leaves New York to speak at 8 30 p m at City Hall Auditorium Winchester on war front experiences. Admission is free as in past Handley lectures. He recounts battles with vivid war correspondent insight and praises Canadian soldiers and allied bonds.
The new war taxes require payment of a stamp tax by borrowers and renewals of notes. The tax is 2 cents on each $100 or fraction thereof, and applies to all notes. It becomes effective on December 1.
Cleveland police report a major heist at Higge Company department store. Four men posing as detectives entered after dusk, overpowered staff, and stole between 25 000 and 50 000 dollars in cash plus valuable furs and leather goods, while three night watchmen were bound and gagged for about twelve hours.
New York November 26 The government and paper makers agreed in federal court on news print prices from January 1 1918 to April 1 1918. Rates set at 3 per 100 pounds at mills for carload and higher rates for smaller lots. An increase of about 50 percent from normal times. The ruling may lead to dismissal of the case against manufacturers upon ratification.
A dispatch from The Hague reports German agents may be moving beyond pressuring Russia into peace. Evidence suggests efforts to win Russia as a Central Powers ally, with Bolshevik leadership in Petrograd possibly swayed by German funds. Washington considers Russia’s three month armistice proposal. no reply expected to avoid recognizing Bolshevik rule. Also includes farm and commodity notices near Perryville with livestock, wheat, corn prices.
Dispatches report severe German losses and a firm Italian defense on the Asiago plateau. Italian troops repelled shock German assaults along the Piave valleys and lower Piave, with counterattacks strengthening the Italian line near Mellette and surrounding sectors.
Charles W. Heater of Middletown district was operated on at Memoria hospital by Dr. P. W. Boyd for minor trouble. He is reported to be improving and hopes to leave the hospital in about a week after the Friday surgery.
Washington May 26 The investigation into the alleged death of Senator Robert M La Follette of Wisconsin was temporarily suspended today by Bryan former secretary of state and several members of the probing committee may be present. Authorities hope to reopen the inquiry before week end and make a report early next week with potential calls for extra time if needed.
