Dallas AP reporting Lee Harvey Oswald, 24, charged with murder in President Kennedy's assassination, after pledging allegiance to the Soviet Union in 1959 and joining Fair Play for Cuba. Police call him arrogant as Kennedy dies 30 minutes after the attack.
Washington AP reports President Johnson proclaims a national day of mourning and calls for global participation in grief and rededication. Dallas AP notes police arrest and lengthy questioning of a man linked as a friend of Lee Harvey Oswald amid the Kennedy assassination case.
Dallas Police Chief says Curry, questioned Friday night, admitted to being a member of a Communist group and connected to officers in the inquiry. The disclosure follows a nighttime interview and ongoing investigation with law enforcement.
The text reports that Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested after President Kennedy was fatally shot and Gov. Connally wounded. A Dallas policeman had been killed earlier, establishing a line of inquiry to Oswald, who proclaimed his innocence while remarks questioned his sanity and possible communist influence.
