Pfc. Holmes A. Bucher, 24, son of Mr and Mrs J E Bucher of Opequon, formerly of Virginia Woolen Co, is treated at Newton D Baker Hospital in Martinsburg W Va for wounds from the North African campaigns. He was wounded in the shoulder at three spots while with his infantry unit after entering service in 1942 and going overseas in 1943. A brother Marvin Bucher works for American Oil Co in Winchester.

Henry B. Steagall Democrat of Alabama and chair man of the House Banking Committee died suddenly in Washington. Born May 19, 1873 in Colpton Dale county he led opposition to the administration food subsidy program and was survived by a widow and three children. He studied at Southeast Alabama Agricultural School Abbeville and the University of Alabama before practicing law and serving in Dale county and state legislature.

Deer Hunters In County Meet With Success
Inquiry at checking stations near Frederick county reported two more deer slain today. Woodrow Keller of 346 Gray Ave bagged a 182 pound 7 point near Hayfield, with Robert Nail. Leonard Clowser of Hayfield killed a freak 6 pointer dressed 117 pounds in Rosenberger area. Sixteen deer were reported killed on opening day with weights up to 200 pounds and points as high as 10. Game officials noted other possible kills in the far southwest and at Shenandoah county stations.
