The Loudoun St. Mall turns one today after a 11 a.m. dedication ceremony in front of the Frederick County Court House. The 1,600 foot pedestrian stretch cost about $535,000 and was hailed as Virginia’s first downtown mall.
The Loudoun Street Mall in Winchester, closed to vehicle traffic from Piccadilly to Cork, is praised as safer by Public Safety Chairman Ben B. Dutton Jr. with only three accidents in a year. Officials report improvements at intersections, enforcement of delivery hours, and ongoing refinements to entrances as the project nears its first anniversary.
