Millwood Veteran William Struder Dies at 85
William M. Struder, 85, longtime Millwood resident and former justice of the peace, died at home from pneumonia and age. A native of Alexandria, he served in Captain Marque's Battery during the Civil War and later worked as a merchant, shoemaker, and beekeeper. He was active in Confederate veteran reunions and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Woman Held for Giving Her Mother Poison Mercy Killing Attempt
In Baltimore on November 20 1936 Ursula Downs 38 faced criminal charges for an alleged mercy killing of her 65 year old paralyzed mother Eleanor Medinger. Bail set at 5000 after a preliminary hearing where she confessed to giving poison before fleeing to a police station. Medinger survived after hospital treatment and was reported out of danger. Downs claimed six months of caregiving left her in misery.
