Rev Dr Smith and Mr BR Gray Williams to address meeting in Methodist Church at Stephens City tonight. Telegram from Dr Mott commends work and urges more contributions.
Voluntary contributions are sought for the Y M C A fund. Do not wait for a committee worker to call. beat them to it. Send contributions to the Winchester Chamber of Commerce. Clarke county has gone over the top and Frederick should do likewise.
War Service Committee and county workers push toward the 4100 fund for Y M C A and War Camp Community. Total contributions reach 3131 as Rev W D Smith and R Gray Williams plan a Stephens City Methodist Church address.
Mr H F Byrd state fuel administrator left for Richmond after a weekend at his city home. Richmond office directs coal dealers to file detailed operation and profit forms. President Wilson allows a 30 percent excess over last year’s charges with conditions Byrd will apply. Byrd to personally verify state dealer compliance. Wagon Mines To Be Opened. German and American forces clashed in No Man's Land on Sunday night with one American killed. Patrols moved along the lines as artillery fire persisted through Monday.
Winchester and Frederick County sent 12 men to the new national army this morning eight white and four colored. The group departed for Washington then Richmond and on to Petersburg and Camp Lee. Leaders were Harry Butler for whites and Samuel N. Giles for colored troops.
Funeral held for Amos E Marker who died at his home near Opequon. Services were at Paxton Chapel then burial in Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. Rev. Brubaker and Rev. Hardesty officiated with pallbearers D A Carpenter James Singhass Edward Lupton John R Snapp Joseph Snapp and Snowden Lupton. Large crowd attended both funeral and interment in Winchester.
Nov. 20. Austro German forces press to end the Piave battle by over running the Asiago plateau and striking behind the Italian line between Bassano and Sestre. Von Hindenburg's strategy evident as heavy fighting and severe losses mark the Alpine front. Italians, aided by war ships, cut off reinforcements and evacuate materiel from Piave mouths.
The American destroyer Chauncey was sunk early Monday in foreign waters by a collision with probable 21 lives lost. The Chauncey, built in 1902, displaced 420 tons with a crew of 91 officers and men.
The Virginia Committee on Training Camp Activities distributes a pamphlet titled Is the Young Man Safe endorsing the YMCA and urging citizens to keep fighting men fit. It argues manhood hinges on morals and community, noting clean environments strengthen soldiers and weaken vice, with emphasis on Virginians near camps.

Federal investigators probe a fire that damaged a United States transport after midnight at an Atlantic port. The ship, used for two troop crossings, had been sealed for fumigation and officials say the blaze likely started from fumigation. Enemy aliens were detained nearby as officials study possible involvement.
Washington Nov. 20. One unidentified man was killed and a large quantity of explosives destroyed in an explosion at the naval proving grounds at Indian Head Maryland. The Navy Department announced the incident and is investigating the cause while not confirming any suspected German activity.
London reports Henry Lloyd George, premier, wins pivotal parliamentary battle over creating a supreme allied war council. Delegates from America and Britain meet to align war strategy while Washington officials note prior communication of unity ideas. Officials expect council to shape military decisions and resource coordination.
