At Quantico the Marine Corps Museum now holds all three flags raised on Iwo Jima last February and March. The first flag flew at 10 37 a m February 29 on Mt Suribachi from a liberated Japanese pipe. Espionage Ties Pearl Harbor Flight to Negotiations Breakoff
Rear Admiral Inglis told the Senate Telegram Committee that captured Japanese documents show Tokyo might have halted the Pearl Harbor strike if diplomacy had succeeded. He said the Japanese were misled about American carrier strength, learning of only two carriers on November 29 and all carriers later entering the harbor by December 5.
