Beaman wins a large vote to become regent of the Virginia Chapter of the CA 8. The result reflects strong support within the organization. He succeeds prior leadership and starts a new term guiding chapter activities and goals.
Mrs. Nathaniel H. Beaman of Norfolk heads the Virginia D A R as state regent with Miss Claudine Hutter of Lynchburg recording secretary and Mrs. Arthur Rowbothan of Alta Vista corresponding secretary. Other officers named for two-year terms include treasurer Mrs. A N Pitzer and registrar Mrs. W W Caffee. The session, held at the First Baptist Church, also featured hearings, musical numbers, and a reception at the home of Dr. and Mrs. George H Heist.
Two armed bandits held up Shawnee Service Station on Millwood Pike near the city limits early morning, robbed the cash register of about 25 to 30 dollars, kidnapped attendant Guy Coffelt, and forced him into Clarke County before abandoning a Chevrolet coupe and fleeing. Coffelt escaped with help from a passing motorist and identified the suspects, believed to be Winchester men connected to a prior incident. Police recover an abandoned car and pursue leads, including a suspect with a prior bad check.
James Carson DeHaven age 65, long time farmer of Frederick County, died at 1:45 this morning at his Hunting Ridge home after a lingering illness. Survived by widow Ella Clark and siblings Harvey and Vina DeHaven. Funeral Saturday at Chestnut Grove Church with Rev. C. J. Racey officiating. interment in church graveyard. Pallbearers named Arthur Cather John Lewis Jamey Davis Clifton Lewis Claskin Brown James Hawkins.

Police raid a garage between Clark and Kern streets uncovering four ten gallon kegs of liquor, coloring material, six empty ten gallon kegs, and many half gallon jars. No arrests were made as the occupant fled using a fictitious name. The liquor was moved to city hall for storage.
MGM presents The Cardboard Lover at the Colonial tonight and Friday. Simmon Davies stars with Jetta Gondal and a chorus of glamorous costumes as a romantic farce adapted from Jacque Duval's play.
A Handley Education Week session drew over a thousand patrons as classes demonstrated student work. The program featured a pageant with a boy and girl exploring schooling and opportunities provided by Handley, guided by J N G Finley and teachers Miss Ritter and Mrs Petrescu.
