Fire at Hotel Filipinas in Manila Kills Dozens
Recovery teams pulled 42 bodies from the seven story Hotel Filipinas in downtown Manila as Fire Marshal Agudon warned the death toll would reach at least 50. An American, Kenneth Charles Eccleston of Riverdale Maryland, was identified among the dead. The blaze, worsened by Typhoon Kim rains and strong winds, began on the fifth floor and swept upward.
