The Virginia division of the National Food Administration names Harry Floyd Byrd of Winchester as fuel administrator. Byrd, editor of the Winchester Star and state legislator, is charged with easing coal distribution and lowering prices for Virginia consumers amid stiff shortages.

MIS. TAYLOR to BACK IN IMEC (Miss Julie Reed Taylor, member of a prominent family, who spends much of her time in Winchester, has finally arrived in America, after having many harrowing experiences in the war zones of Europe. She is now recuper ating at the home of her mcle in Memphis, Tent, according to a letter received by Mr. Shirley. Carter, Miss Taylor was touring in Europe and happened to be in Germany when the United States entered the 'war. She was practically a prisoner in the enemy country, and friends in Win chester and elsewhere were for a long time greatly concerned about her safety. She was unable to communicate with her acquaintances, and more than once it was feared that she would have to remain in Germany and undergo many privations until af ter the war, if, indeed, she ever got away alive, Glad To Be Back In America. Miss Taylor has, however, succeed ed after, after repeated starts, get back to her own country. In, letter to Mr. Carter she says: "E sailed from Bordeaux, after a very interesting time in France, I am something of a wreck, as I was interned in Germany for nearly five months and had a good deal of trou ble getting away. "I have been living on turnips and bran mash for seven months and have have lost forty-five pounds, so you may imagine that. I am rather glad to get back to America again.
