Winchester fire department plans a new organizational set up under trial. Fire Committee Chairman Carroll H. Henkel says if successful two assistant fire chiefs may be appointed and the chain of command and duties are being defined. Bernard Groves Jr. is city fire chief. The plan will be tested for a month with a report to follow.
London AP reports the Labour government unveils a national budget designed to raise revenue and reduce Britain's import bill. The plan anticipates higher sales taxes, a long term levy, and relief for pensions while regularizing a 15 percent import surcharge. The Commons vote on a Conservative no confidence motion passed 315 to 294 with Liberal support.
A B52 bomber from Larson Air Force Base crashed during a routine training flight near Wolf Point Montana, killing six crewmen and leaving one missing. Barbed wreckage scattered. some crew may have parachuted to safety as investigation begins.
