In Fort Worth Texas the motorcycle officer Eddie J. Kelliher was shot in the abdomen and shoulder and crushed legs after stopping a motorist Hollis G. Thom for speeding. Thom, 40, fled, was chased, and fired on officers while in a pickup, which was later found with a pistol shell box and liquor.
