W. B. Ragsdale reports that Republicans celebrate gains in 1938 elections with hope toward 1940. Gains in governorships and state votes boost morale, while congressional advances are modest. Alf Landon credits the victory to a pro test vote against Roosevelt policies and calls for a restored two party system.
Mr Winchester notes difficulty in judging whether turkeys belong on foot or in the oven as Shenandoah Valley flocks gain Thanksgiving fame. He says cranberries and other dinner accompaniments heighten anticipation for the holiday.
Winchester police hold two prisoners wanted here and elsewhere on various charges. Frank F. McKinnon, sought in Detroit and Monroe for kidnapping and bond jumping, faces assault and battery charges after allegedly beating his wife. Rose, visiting Hollis Rose in Rogersville, Alabama, is jailed as a fugitive from Georgetown Delaware for escape. Delbert Leight, held on a Glock of gunpoint robbery, forgery, and concealed weapons, escaped in Maryland and Indiana authorities seek extradition.
John S. Scully Jr. leads a Winchester Red Cross roll call to raise 1600 members and 3000 dollars for 1938 39. Over 150 volunteers will run the drive November 14 to 24 with Miss Olivia Dellinger in charge of window decorations and offices at 128 North Loudoun.
The American Legion Auxiliary invites Winchester and Frederick County residents to support its Robert Y. Conrad unit by attending a turkey dinner at the George Washington Hotel on Friday November 11 at 5 30 p m. The event aims to raise 500 to fund rehabilitation for disabled veterans and their families, honoring those who served.

The parade starts at 10 30 from the George Washington Hotel with a 11 15 sermon then a veterans luncheon there. In the afternoon Handley High meets Fredericksburg High at 2 30 with tickets sold by the American Legion and a 5 30 Auxiliary dinner at the same hotel. Poppies and veteran made articles will be sold throughout the day.

Bricker won the governor’s race as Republicans claimed major wins across 12 of 24 congressional seats and a GOP majority in the legislature.

Annapolis Md Nov 9 Republican Gov Harry W Nice conceded defeat in his bid for reelection and telegraphed heartiest congratulations to Democrat Herbert R O Conor. He praised the victory and signaled a possible comeback while pledging cooperation and noting Maryland's two to one Democratic majority.
