The 80 acre dam above Toccoa Falls Bible College broke after days of heavy rain, flooding the campus area. Southwest Virginia endured floods from weekend rains with 165 plus secondary roads closed and five primary roads submerged. No fatalities reported though six bridges washed out and about 200 evacuated, mainly in Smyth and Grayson counties as rivers overran banks and towns like Chilhowie and Marion faced isolation.
