Nixon swept Winchester Frederick Clarke area with a record unofficial total of 14 942 votes. He led with 7 531 to Humphrey 3 738 and Wallace 3 649. Voters in 1,639 of 2,008 precincts backed state bonds for higher education and mental hospitals with an over two to one margin. State total bonds include 67.23 million for colleges and libraries and 13.77 million for mental hospital expansion and a new psychiatric institute. In Winchester 2,570 supported and 2,021 opposed the education bond. 2,606 favored and 1,805 opposed the same proposal.
