The campaign winds down as Roosevelt and Dewey prepare final appeals to voters. Roosevelt plans a network broadcast and regional stops around Hyde Park while Dewey finishes a 11 pm ET network address before voting with Mrs. Dewey in New York. Endorsements flow from Bricker and Truman as 1,114 other candidates vie for governorship, senate and house seats in a pivotal election.
An unsigned Izvestia two column survey circulated among foreign reporters in Moscow alleging Republicans might stage a last minute fake plot to kill Governor Dewey. The piece claims Republicans blame American communists and would use the event to influence voters. Dewey offered no comment from Albany while Roosevelt remained in Hyde Park. editors Patterson Gannett and McCormick dismissed the report as absurd.
Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek told the Associated Press that prospects for close and effective Chinese American military political and economic cooperation are excellent. He said Roosevelt’s explanation of Stilwell’s recall was adequate and offered no further comment. The message from Chungking was addressed to Kent Cooper and received in New York.
Precinct officials in Winchester Frederick and Clarke counties are asked to phone election results to The Star at 3424 as soon as returns are complete after the November 7 general election. Cooperation will aid state and national coverage.

London reports Allied forces drove the Nazi line back across the Maas from 25 to 15 miles inland to the sea, with two small pockets resisting. British officers claimed substantial German losses and a serious setback for Field Marshal Von Rundstedt's forces as operations continue toward Rotterdam.
