Five Arehors In Valley Pike Crash Injures Virginia Star

Five hurt when two cars collide head on on the Valley Pike south of New Market. Harry Martin Jr., 23, UVa halfback, suffers broken nose, facial injuries, and a wrenched ankle, ending his season. Irene Ring, Margaret Piggott, Helen Spitzer, and Carl Spitzer also injured. Spitzer to face hearing after hospital discharge. Martin was en route to Woodstock to spend the weekend.

Crawford Taken to Leesburg by Armed Officers

In Leesburg Virginia on November 6 1919 two white women were killed and George Crawford a Black man was moved to the Leesburg circuit court guarded by armed state police to challenge the grand jury indictment for lack of Black jurors. Defense attorney Charles Houston argues the grand jury was racially biased and seeks to quash the indictment. The case centers on the exclusion of Black jurors and Crawford’s murder charges.

Reverend Dame Recovering From Illness In Page

The Rev. Nelson P. Dame, Episcopal state missioner, sick two weeks at Rock House east of Stanley Page County, is greatly improved and may return home to Richmond soon. His doctor orders rest from active duties until year’s start. Dame long served Christ Church and later became diocesan missioner under Albert Baker’s endowment.

Peter Arno Knocked Out in Hollywood Emb asy Club Fight

New York cartoonist Peter Arno was knocked out in an early morning fight at the Embassy Club in Hollywood California. The clash involved Drexel Biddle Steele and his business manager Gordon Butler with Sally O Neill present. Witnesses claimed Miss O Neill ended the altercation by striking Steele with a chair but she denied any part in the fight. Steele said Arno objected to his speaking to Miss O Neill as he passed Arno s table.

District Nurses Record 427 Visits in October

Henry's Wedding Presented by a Large Local Cast

Hardy Held Not Guilty of Bank Charges

Marlboro Girl Shot Through The Thigh By Rifle

Miss Ruby M. Long a sixteen year old of the Marlboro section in Frederick county was wounded when a .22 rifle fired while her father Newton D. Long picked it from her lap. The bullet passed through the flesh of her thigh and she was treated at Memorial Hospital. Her doctor said the injury is not serious and she should recover at home in a few days barring infection.
