John Fletcher a renowned painter and decorator in the Shenandoah Valley died suddenly in his sleep at the home of his nephew, Harry Taylor, 126 East Leicester Street. Born January 29, 1829, he was eighty eight, with a stroke last January. The body was found at about 7 AM. Continued on page two.
James Johnson, a young Fauquier county farmer, was shot through the heart at Vernon Mills near Marshall. His body was chained to a horse and dragged about 150 yards into the woods, where it was found days later by searchers. He left a widow and five small children. James Glasscock is missing.
William R. Wilcox, National Republican chairman, said Hughes could net from 310 to 815 electoral votes. Democratic National Chairman Vance McCormick forecast at least 364 votes for Wilson. The Wilson camp claimed a rosy outlook despite lingering electoral uncertainties. A lost gold open-face Elgin watch and fob rewards at the Star office.
Shenandoah division of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad plans a winter schedule change in late November. Passenger train No 7 would be eliminated and a new morning northbound train would reach Winchester at 6 85 o'clock then continue to Strasburg Junction for a connection with the Southern Railway to Harrisonburg Virginia.
Mrs. Richard died at Western State Hospital Staunton Virginia this morning. She had lived in Mount Williams all her life before hospitalization. Her husband died about fifty years ago. Remains arrival expected about 5 55 this evening with interment planned Wednesday at St John s Church near Mountain Falls. No near relatives. Sheriff Pannitt managed her affairs.

Six men are believed dead and another dying after a coal train derailed and struck a light engine at New Portage Junction six miles south of Altoona Pennsylvania. The wreck destroyed 47 of 60 cars and left engines crushed. The incident followed a 10 mile eastern descent on the Alleghany slope.
