Berlin November 5 A brief communique said Reichsfuehrer Adolf Hitler received Michael Cardinal Faulhaber Archbishop of Munich at the chancellor’s Berchtesgaden home. Faulhaber long opposed Hitler, and the meeting was seen as hinting at a possible easing of Nazi Catholic tensions.
Two white street lights near Handley Library at Handley Library will brighten the busy intersection aiding drivers and pedestrians. The upgraded illumination will flood the library exterior after dark, highlighting its beauty and making the building a striking nighttime landmark.

Pittsburgh November 5 Philip Murray chairman of the Steel Workers Organizing Committee said his group has enrolled 82 315 members in the drive to unite about 450 000 steel workers into a single union On the eve of a key meeting of the committee for industrial organization he called Roosevelt reelection a command to press forward.
The State Department announced 17 American citizens were evacuated from Spain aboard the Raleigh in European waters. The group, including Dollie Prater and two children, Kirk and Va, were taken at Valencia and landed in Marseille, France.
Pittsburgh November 5 The Carnegie Illinois Steel Corporation says wage talks with employees are progressing and expressed confidence negotiations will reach a successful conclusion. President Benjamin F Fairless called the discussions productive.
At Hyde Park New York November 5 President Roosevelt hosted Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli secretary of State at the Vatican during his U S visit. Also invited were two American bishops Francis Spellman and Stephen Donahue and Enrico Galleazzi Pacelli secretary. Other guests included Joseph P Kennedy Mrs Kennedy Frank C Walker and Mrs Walker. Officials declined to discuss any topic but noted the courtesy shown to a visiting dignitary.

Joe Moore a 28 year old transient recounted an 11 day stay in a sealed box car with only green peanuts to eat. He entered the car on a Vancouver dock October 23, awoke as the car moved and remained inside until he was found Tuesday in a Toronto hospital.
In Elkhart Indiana police report Lester Bedford Slack 34 a house painter confessed to poisoning his brother Eley Slack 39 to collect life insurance for a Florida trip. Eley Slack died Monday night.
North Carolina Supreme Court refused to hear oral arguments in the case of Martin Moore of Asheville who faces death by gas for the murder of Helen Clevenger of Staten Island, ruling the appeal was not properly perfected.
