The Nixon price freeze produced a 0.1 percent fall in October wholesale prices for the second straight month, with consumer finished goods rising 0.2 percent mainly due to a 2.1 percent jump in foods. Excluding foods, consumer goods fell 0.3 percent while industrial commodities were unchanged.

In Unity Flats Belfast gun battle between British troops and IRA gunmen lasted over four hours. One civilian died and another wounded. a police officer was wounded as a Jeep was hit.
