Apple Crop 25 Per Cent Lighter In Region Say Growers
Frederick and Clarke counties along with nearby West Virginia expect about 25 percent less apple yield than 1940. Frost damage bloom faults and rainfall shortages dim crop prospects with moisture remaining a key factor. Some Clarke county orchards anticipate half crops like the York variety, while many growers note orchards appear to cope with drought though overall indications lag last year.
