Memorial Day tribute honors fallen soldiers at National Cemetery

The National Cemetery observance paid tribute to Civil War and World War veterans with over 5 000 graves decorated by War Department flags and Ladies' National Memorial Association flowers. Romney Lions Entertain At Ladies Night In Romney West Virginia

The Winchester Lions Club hosted a Ladies Night in Romney with the Romney club and Winchester club joining, dining at the New Century Hotel and dancing after a banquet. Judge J G Kump led as toastmaster while Russell Saville spoke on banking in Cumberland Maryland. The West Virginia School for the Blind orchestra performed and a program of songs featured Epperly Gilpin Kearns and others with a mixed group of club members and guests.

India Pageant "New Day" at local Church

The pageant India’s New Day directed by Mrs. W L Dudley will be presented at 8 o'clock Sunday evening at the Church of Christ. Clerk's Office Closed for Confederate Memorial Day in Frederick

The Frederick county Circuit Court clerk's office will close all day Saturday June 6 for Confederate Memorial Day by order of Judge Philip Williams. Pays A Fine For Having Three Pet Foxes In Custody

J. W. Conner of near Stephens City faced the county magistrate court for keeping three pet foxes in confinement. The law bans fox captivity, so he was fined plus costs and ordered to release the animals. He also paid a separate fine for an unlicensed dog.

Four year old Alvin Cline son of Mr and Mrs R J Cline of Kernstown was brought to Memorial Hospital with a fractured left leg. Cause of injury is unknown and his condition is described as satisfactory.

Retired farmer John Boyce dies after truck fall on highway

John Boyce, a well known retired farmer from near Chambersville, died this morning after falling from a truck on the Northwestern Pike near Game Warden F W Pingley’s residence. The death was due to apoplexy. The 65 year old leaves a wife and several children. He had been visiting Winchester earlier in the day on legal business and was driven home by William Anderson. His remains were taken to Jones Undertaking Establishment for burial.

Winchester Memorial Hospital approves $70,000 bond issue

The Winchester Memorial Hospital board in a special session authorized a $70,000 first mortgage bond issue effective Sept 1 1931 to retire a $60,000 due that same date and provide $10,000 to cover outstanding accounts.
