Kermit Orndorff 26 of Star Tannery is jailed in Woodstock after a warrant alleges the murder of his wife Frances, missing since December 29. Sheriff Pannett plans to question him about details of her disappearance as a manhunt and investigation continue.
Speaker Garner defended the $2.3 billion relief plan and rejected the label pork barrel. He argued Hoover’s veto of broader RFC powers and a public works program harms the destitute and middle class, calling limited cooperation from the President unsurprising.
The Rev. S. R. Ludwig returned from Edinburg Virginia where he conducted a 10 day evangelistic revival with Rev. L. A. Racey at the United Brethren Church. Thirty seven people professed conversion during the series.

In Flemington on May 28 the grand jury delivered three indictments to Justice Thomas Trenchard. One indictment covers murder. the other two proceed to quarter sessions. The case centers on John Hughes Curtis, the Norfolk hoaxer linked to the Lindbergh crime.

Stanley Miller 13, of Handley High School, dashed through Abram's Creek to reach Cadet Fleischman at the S M A camp. He pulled the delirious youth back from the pit edge just as he attempted to jump. Other corps members aided as Fleischman recovered in the hospital tent.

Memorial services at National Cemetery Monday at 2 30 p.m. Banks close, post office hours limited, and schools let out at noon. Handley Library remains open. Circuit Court clerk's office unaffected.

Washington May 28 Senator Watson Indiana Republican leader said in the Senate that Secretary Mills says the revenue bill must raise 56 million more than now to balance the budget. The Treasury estimates the measure would provide 969 million while 1,025 million is needed.
Reports from Frederick County show rising interest in home demonstration work led by Miss Elizabeth Farrar. Women’s club meetings draw strong attendance and Four-H activities progress well with Stephens City group recording 17 participants as Farrar presented a well planned dinner demonstration assisted by club leaders Mrs. Snapp Williams and Mrs. H. B. Lovett.

A program of old folk songs interpreted by tableaux will be presented by the Young People of the Christian Endeavor Societies of Winchester aided by Lutheran and United Brethren Choirs at Handley School Auditorium on Tuesday June 14 at 8 o'clock. A chorus of fifty will begin practice May 31 in the Presbyterian Church Sunday School room with Floyd Haines directing. Tickets are on sale from Christian Endeavor members with a prize for ticket sales. The event honors the elderly audience and offers transportation for those unable to walk. The program will feature songs like Carry You Back to Old Virginny Darling Nellie Gray Old Black Joe and other nostalgic tunes in old-time costume.
Turner Ashby Camp No. 218 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans organized in Winchester with Gen R M Colvin as state organizer and Charles P McVicar named commander. Ten charter members including Hunter H McGuire, Harry F Byrd, William Hottel, W Nelson Page and others attended. Next week plans include Confederate Memorial Day participation and eligibility rules noted for sons or grandsons of Confederate veterans.

In Luray Virginia a huge rattler fought workmen near Skyline Drive. The beast attacked the gas shovel and was ground to bits after a tense sequence. Over two months crews unearthed two dens of large rattlesnakes aside from black snakes and others, with nearly fifty killed south of the tunnel.
In St. Paul Minnesota a doctor told the State Medical Association that a roguish wink or a wrinkled brow can indicate a form of goiter. Dr. James F. Brusegard of Red Wing explained the symptom at the convention.
Raymond Johnson aged 12 glimpsed a baby sliding from an apartment roof and made a grab saving the child. He was knocked to the ground but the infant survived though with a possible skull fracture.
Washington Will Rogers expresses interest in umpiring a House Democrats versus Republicans ball game. He cannot attend this game but wires the Democratic captain that he hopes to see them play outdoors and plans to attend next year.
In Centralia a traveler offered his right wooden leg for fuel at a filling station run by H C Gildehaus. The owner accepted and provided gasoline, with the man joking he would return later to reclaim the limb.
In Wadesboro North Carolina a 24 year old farm boy Philip Jordan attacked his father W H Jordan 62 with a razor slashing his throat then turned on his mother who woke and fought him off until others arrived. He then attempted to take his own life. Authorities report the family incident occurred early today at their home.
