Skylab 1 astronauts Charles Conrad Jr Joseph Kerwin and Paul Weitz safely docked with the space station after a tense day of failed docking attempts. They plan to test the station’s heat exposure and erect a sun shade to sustain a 28 day stay. A first flawless liftoff preceded the docking, followed by a space walk to repair a jammed solar panel and an EVA to override a short circuit. The crew faced radio blackouts and near-misses before achieving a "hard dock" late Friday.
