Health program dropped for session by president
Senate Democratic Leader Lucas said after a White House conference it will be impossible for Congress to act on President Truman's national health program this session. He noted progress on civil rights is uncertain and eyed an adjournment by July 31, with possible extension into August if must measures are not finished. He listed three must items: extension of the reciprocal trade program, repeal of Taft-Hartley, and approval of the North Atlantic Pact. He also said Truman wants speedier authorization to reorganize the government and that final approval of the reorganization bill by June 1 is desired if possible.
