AP reports a 24 hour Buddha's birthday truce across Vietnam with 10 Americans killed and 17 wounded since cease fire began. Smoke Shuts City As Fire Hits Rubber Store Yard
A blaze at the O'Sullivan Rubber Corp yard on S Loudoun Street destroyed plastic trim bales. Spectators saw a huge black smoke plume. two Winchester firefighters were knocked over by a high pressure hose and treated for injuries. Local Girl 3 Fatally Shot At Her Home
A Winchester three year old girl, Marcia Brown, died after a .22 caliber pistol discharged while she and her brother played with the firearm. The incident at 318 1/2 Sharp Street occurred as a household adult attempted to take the gun. Police report the death appears accidental and occurred at Winchester Memorial Hospital after arrival by rescue squad. State Medical Examiner Dr Douglas Hill said she may have lived about 15 minutes.
