RICHMOND Va May 22 State finance officials sought to work out today with the State Corporation Commission and the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company their newest problem how to go about paying some 114 telephone workers on the Eastern Shore It up to the state which seized the properties May 20 to be ready with the weekly pay checks tomorrow but just how this shall be done was a matter which finally came to rest on the doorstep of the attorney general. State Comptroller Henry G Gilmer State Treasurer Jesse W Dillon Corporation Commissioners H Lester Hooker and L McCarthy Downs talked about the matter at a conference with Arthur L Lambdin vice president and general manager of the phone Company of Virginia. The weekly payroll of approximately 4000 or the state's three day share of that amount since the May 20 secure is a financial burden for the state to assume it was generally agreed. The details were being worked out and it was decided to ask the attorney general what procedure would be legally correct in the matter.

Changes Plea To Guilty And Waives Trial By Jury
William Charles Hall a 19 year old ex sailor from St. Louis Missouri was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to imprisonment in the state penitentiary in the Frederick County Circuit Court at noon today. Hall had faced charges for the slaying of Frederick Currie of Grosse Pointe Michigan after waiving a jury trial and changing his plea from innocent to guilty. He wore a tweed suit and blue tie, embraced his relative Jerry Hall of St Louis before custody, and displayed visible nerves as the historic courtroom packed with onlookers waited for the verdict. The trial began earlier today after Hall and co defendant Ridgewell of Portland Maine were arraigned and the jury was dismissed. Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Sloan Kuykendall outlined the case as Hall’s signed FBI statement was read, revealing Ridgewell’s plan to strangle Currie and rob him, and Hall’s agreement to participate after meeting in New York. The statement details past statements of violence and collaboration in the December 23 incident on Route 50 near Winchester.
