Labor Meeting Defeats Censure of Senators
Petersburg May 20 A peace of today veries censure of United Senators Carter Glass and Claude Swanton for their support of John Z Parker for the United States supreme court. The delegation from Clifton Forge presented the resolution which was defeated on the second day of the annual Virginia state federation convention. A proposal by Miss Thelma M Borchardt for organizing Virginia teachers into locals was moved as a resolution expected to gain action before the meeting closes. Miss Borchardt urged affiliation with the American Federation of Teachers to correct illiteracy and organize teachers amid a reported ten percent shortfall in Richmond schools. Francis J Gorman of the American Textile Union spoke on textile problems centering in Danville as key to southern solutions.
