15-Cent Mail Rate Approval Is Due
The Postal Service board of governors is expected to approve a 15-cent first class mail rate, with a date set for the end of the month. Some members protest the action and urge reconsideration, which could yield a 13-cent rate for individuals and a 16-cent rate for businesses. The rate commission’s stance and potential back-and-forth reflect a deficit-plagued service seeking added revenue while weighing impacts on parcel rates and competition with United Parcel Service.
