Winchester clubs plan a local baseball league with Kiwanis Lions Elks and Rotary. The first game between Elks and Lions teams is at Handley School diamond at 4 PM tomorrow. Gate receipts go to charity, with a small fund for a loving cup for the winner. One game weekly hoped.
A flood rumor claimed Jeff Clark his wife and children drowned in the Mississippi flood. Investigations found no tragedy as the Clark family now lives in Little Rock Arkansas where they sheltered on high ground during the flood waters. Clark is a semi professional ball player who played for Winchester's team.

The Berkeley county coroner jury found no one was to blame for the Arden road crossing accident that killed Francis and Allen Catrow and Gerald Shriver, all from Arden Berkeley county. Engineman Thomas Horn testified he blew the whistle and emergency brakes were applied but the Ford touring car stalled on the track. The Catrows were returning from a Martinsburg baseball game and funerals are planned for both families.
The Winchester Kiwanis Club hosted Handley High School graduates at a luncheon at the George Washington Hotel. Judge Williams was absent. Vice-President Richard led as host, with Luther Green giving the welcome and Miss Eloise Caldwell and Miss Mary Thomas delivering songs and toasts. Sixty four seniors attended with Supt. H S Duffey and Miss Opal Robinson.
The Winchester Gas Company showcases a gas based ice refrigeration system at West Piccadilly street offices. The unit has no moving parts, operates quietly, and requires minimal maintenance with a lifetime container tested to 4,000 pounds pressure. It promises lower costs than electric units and melts 75 to 100 pounds of ice daily. Public viewing is offered this week at the company offices.

A delayed Nogales Herald report says bandits attacked a train in Jalisco on May 16 burying alive a priest and a young girl from Tepec. Local authorities have not confirmed details.

Citizens raised the money by evening and she was released, but the dog was killed because the license funds were not available.

Pleasant Valley offers Sunday school at 1 p.m. and sermon at 11 a.m. Mount Pleasant, W Va holds Sunday school at 10 a.m. and evening services at 7 p.m. If weather allows, the pastor will meet at Fairview at 3 p.m. and may organize for summer. A Mount Pleasant revival began May 16 with four conversions to date and continued services at 7:45 p.m. tonight and Friday night with further announcements.

A series of bullish demonstrations in high priced industrials including Baldwin General Motors American Smelting and United States Cast Iron Pipe touched new record highs while oils textiles and New York traction weakened. Trading remained heavy with call money cut to 4 percent. The day closed irregular with about 2 000 000 shares traded.
Detroit Michigan May 19 The threatened strike on the Pere Marquette Railroad was halted when railroad officials and union representatives reached a working agreement announced by the federal board of mediation which extended its aid. About 6000 employees had voted almost unanimously to strike at 6 this morning.
Jim Maloney versus Jack Sharkey heavyweight elimination bout at Yankee Stadium postponed to tomorrow night promoter Tex Rickard announced. The 15 round match was set for tonight in New York.
In Parkersburg West Virginia Earl Ewing was convicted of beating a four year old girl and forcing her to stand before an open fire until she suffered serious burns. He received a 19 year sentence the maximum penalty for the offense. The injured child Margaret Starcher lived with the Ewings and has been hospitalized for over a month.

The Episcopal Council Diocese of Virginia reveals 1926 church statistics led by Rev. G. M. Brydon. Baptisms 860 with 630 white and 49 colored infants. 974 confirmations. 407 marriages. 618 funerals.
