Contract Bridge Lessons Show How Leads Shape Outcomes
Central Press columnist E. W. Shepard notes players who ignore sound rules lose more on bad hands and win less on good hands. He cites two recent hands where North and West erred by leading against established custom, affecting declarer success in two days with the same partner.
Bridge bidding and play to defeat a doubled contract
The bidding sequence ends with South taking a doubled contract in spades. Declarer, after a singleton opening by North, wins with the queen and makes three trump tricks and four diamonds, discarding two of three losing spades on the last round. West misleads by leading a club, allowing East to score two tricks, but declarer still fulfills the contract.
