Governor Peery and Budget Director Bradford report Virginia’s 1935 36 fiscal outlook is sound. They say carryover of part or all of the 1934 deficit should not embarrass school funds or other industries, with potential to wipe out the old shortage and possibly release part of the 328 000 school allotment.
Jackson's Mill West Virginia May 15. Dr. Charles Brewbaker of Dayton Ohio superintendent of religious education of the United Brethren Church told the ninth annual state ministers conference that liquor is destroying the sweetness of young womanhood. He deplored rising drunkenness among young girls, saying wine makes them crazy and warns against drinking by youth.
Northern Virginia district track meet will be held at Handley stadium on Saturday May 25. D J Howard supervisor of vocational agriculture selects F F A members from 25 northern counties to represent the district. Winners advance to the State F F A Rally at Blacksburg June 17 18 and 19. Ten events include sprints distance runs field events and jumps with 12 entrants per event and preliminary meets this week to determine finalists.
Select district winners in the meet here with first second and Lee place to go to bury. Similar meets will occur in three other parts of the state under Mr. Howard’s supervision spanning from the northern state to Richmond county in the Northern Neck and nearby Botetourt County. The district will hold a public speaking contest and four boys from northern Virginia will reach the state contest at the University of Virginia on Saturday May 18. The three day state rally covers many projects and meetings and marks the big annual event for all F F A boys.
Local Rotarians extended greetings to Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd an honorary member and indicated appreciation while noting no special meeting was scheduled. The club said if he visits Winchester again it will honor him with a visit.
Secretary Ickes directs 175 lawyers engineers and finance examiners to operate in 320 work areas to process Work Relief Program applications and reduce Washington congestion. State directors will be named where volumes demand while avoiding extra hires.

James Roosevelt announces that President is invited to attend the Young Democratic Club national convention in Milwaukee on August 23 and 24. He spoke at a press conference as secretary of the Young Democratic Club seeking support for the 1936 campaign and said he will urge the President to accept the invitation.
