Edgar Emery Gibson, longtime Stephens City resident and member of a prominent local family, died at his farm home near Stephens City after a long illness. He was unmarried, survived by his sister Ella Rebecca Gibson, and his funeral will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday at the home with Rev. C. C. Bush officiating and burial in Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers include Robert Lemley, James Campbell, Snapp Williams, C. S. Staples, Gervis Lemley and Edgar Lineberg. honorary pallbearers listed.
Rupert B. Turnbull reports his Monrovia area ranch turned into an armed camp after threats to abduct his daughter Loretta Turnbull a noted speedboat racing enthusiast. He is a bankruptcy referee in Los Angeles and says three sons and Loretta have arms ready for any kidnap attempt.
Paul Hummer 23 of Gaylord Clarke county Virginia died after a Saturday night crash with a car driven by Raymond Hostler mountain resident near Charles Town. Gwendolyn Staubs 19 suffered concussion and injuries. Hostler charged with manslaughter. Other occupants Jesse Rodgers Marguerite Rodgers Charles Wilt escaped serious harm. Cars destroyed.
Closing quotations today show Chicago May wheat at 87 and July at 85 with Sept at 86.54, Baltimore spot wheat at 86. Winchester spot 62, corn Chicago May 46, July 48.34, Sept 49.46. Winchester delivered price 57 cents per bushel and $2.85 per barrel.
Mrs H M Seabright Jr. who had an appendectomy at Memorial Hospital last week is reported to be recovering nicely.

Washington early report quotes Assistant U S Attorney Dwight H Green detailing the case against Samuel Insull. Green says Insull claims he was kidnaped by the American government in Asia Minor and smuggled to the United States to face bankruptcy and mail fraud charges. Preliminary hearing looms as defense may challenge jurisdiction.
Captain George R. Pone and Lieutenant Cesare Sabelli took off from Floyd Bennett Field at 6 24 am aiming to reach Rome non stop in about forty hours aboard the Leonardo Da Vinci monoplane. They carry 680 gallons of fuel and plan the Great Circle Route with possible France or Spain landing if weather worsens.
San Francisco dispatch reports Millard D. Hickman a Matson Navigation port engineer was booked on a murder charge after the body of 23 year old Louise Jeppesen was found in Golden Gate Park. Police say she was attacked beaten and strangled with a belt and scarf after leaving Hickman at 3 am.

The Music Lovers' Club hosts its seventh monthly concert at the George Washington Hotel gold room at 8:30 PM with Hazel Ione Moses as guest harpist. Virginia Barr and Adele Hutchinson perform Beethoven Symphony VIII II. Martinsburg club members Singers Marie Grantham Carrie Chamberlin Martha McKown and instrumentalist Cynthia Davidson Clapham join the program. Members free. nonmembers 25 cents at door.
Fredericksburg May 13 John Harding O Donnoghue Jr of Washington was instantly killed when his car struck the north end of the Falmouth Bridge while Mrs Dorothy Swift also of Washington was injured. Swift swerved to avoid a dog and the car rolled over several times. O Donnoghue died at the scene and Swift was taken to Mary Washington Hospital.
The Park Association will hold its regular monthly meeting this evening at 8 o'clock in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
Winchester Commandery No 12 Knights Templar and the Handley High School Cadet Band are set to lead the Grand Commandery parade in Martinsburg on Wednesday at 4 PM. The event includes a chariot from a previous Virginia meeting, full Templar dress, a 6 PM banquet, and an 8:30 PM reception at the Shenandoah Hotel with uniformed Sir Knights and guests.
Mrs. L. L. Fansler of West Leicester Street celebrated Mother's Day by riding over Winchester in a Valley Airways passenger plane. She accepted the invitation, flew above the city, and said the view was beautiful from the air. She felt safe with the experienced pilot and wished to fly again.

In Los Angeles a ransom intermediary carrying sixty thousand dollars in five and ten dollar bills evaded hijackers after a five hour pursuit. He opened fire when surrounded by three hijacked cars near Maywood, police say. Two suspects were later detained but released without explanation.

Licenses to wed were issued Saturday by the Corporation Clerk to two colored couples of Winchester. John Ash and Margaret Wright were married by the Rev. B. L. A fire started at 9:45 yesterday in Asa Crisman furniture ware room on South Loudoun street and quickly spread through the frame structure to the main building and adjacent stores and apartments. Loss estimated between 45000 and 50000 dollars. Residents escaped as smoke filled the upper floors and firefighters fought flames from alley and Main Street front with gas masks and ladders. Rice's Music Store and Winchester Furniture faced damage while efforts prevented spread to neighboring properties. Continued on page eleven.
