Alligator Counterattack Halts Work at Launch Pad
A 12 foot alligator roamed the Atlas Centaur rocket complex at Cape Kennedy trapping workers in a nervous halt. Guards A D Vann Skip Mack and S J Rowell captured the beast by rope and drainage ditch escape, a fire truck flushed it away and crews sealed the opening with wire.

Norfolk pupil assignment plan ruled unconstitutional
Federal Judge Walter E Hoffman ruled the 1967 68 high school pupil assignment plan unconstitutional while approving the rest of the desegregation plan. He proposed three alternatives including geographic districts with transfer options and nearest road distance rules, to avoid locking pupils in a single district. The NAACP objections were denied. Hoffman's suggestions will be reviewed at an upcoming board meeting.

In Richmond the four step consolidation of Hopewell High with Carter G. Woodson High was approved by District Judge John D. Butzner Jr. against NAACP opposition. Ninth grade phasing begins September with full transfer to the new 1,400 pupil school by 1970.
