House to Back Senate Draft Extension Measure
The House is expected to align with a Senate passed draft extension bill giving Johnson leeway for Selective Service reforms. It would extend draft authority four years and allow 19 and 20 year olds to be inducted while preserving local boards with some decentralization. The plan includes possible college deferments, a lottery system, and limits on National Guard or Reserve enlistment prior to induction.
