Fugate cites dangers in Interstate 66 delay in Virginia
Virginia highway commissioner Douglas B. Fugate warned that court orders delaying I 66 construction will worsen congestion raise costs and kill more people. He spoke at the Virginia Chamber of Commerce meeting noting studies show four lives saved and 100 injuries prevented annually by the highway while reducing accidents and air pollution. He accused environmental opponents of obstruction for obstruction's sake. Dickenson County issued 2500 marriage licenses last year to many out of state residents and has no waiting period.
