Frederick County Reapportionment Commission recommended retaining five districts and redraws Back Creek Opequon Shawnee Gainesboro and Stonewall. A public hearing was set for May 2 at 7 30 p m. The plan seeks small population deviations and includes proposed interim zoning for annexed areas in the city.

Romney Man Dies In Route 50 Crash Near Hayfield
A 79 year old West Virginia man Elmer Preston Saville died on arrival at Winchester Memorial Hospital after a two car collision west of Hayfield at 12 15 p m. Ina Lorraine Johnson 33 of Stephens City was treated for a neck strain and abrasions and released. Saville was a Romney resident and longtime treasurer of the Potomac Valley Soil Conservation District. He is survived by a large family and will be buried at Mt Zion Cemetery Augusta West Virginia. The crash occurred as Saville pulled from a driveway at Ferns Restaurant into the westbound lane. The Winchester Volunteer Rescue Squad transported both victims to the hospital. Pending funeral services set for Mt Zion United Methodist Church Augusta West Virginia.

Clarke County circuit court sentenced 45 year old Livingston Small to life imprisonment for first degree murder in the death of his wife Rosa Small. Rosa was found dead after a fire at the Rosemont estate residence about 5 30 a m on January 5 1970. Small pled guilty in March and faced presentence reports and arguments before the judge.

County Board Advances 40 Cent Tax Hike To Fund Sewage Plant
The Frederick County Board of Supervisors proposed a 40 cent tax increase for 1971-72 to fund a county budget and the new real estate and personal property rates would be 3.40 and 4.40 per 100 of valuation.
