Measuring baseball pitch speed with a pitchometer
Dr. I. M. Levitt of the Fels Planetarium, Philadelphia, uses a device called a pitchometer. Two light beams a foot apart trigger an electronic timer as the ball passes, allowing exact speed calculation. Pitched balls travel at 90 mph or faster.
