Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Strong of Inwood Berkeley county West Virginia died at Winchester Memorial Hospital at age 76 after an operation for acute appendicitis. She was brought from Martinsburg area midweek, funeral at her home Wednesday at 1 pm with burial in Norbourne Cemetery Martinsburg. Miss Annie Jarvis originated the idea in Philadelphia to honor mothers and remind people of their debt and home ties. Congress in 1914 set the date as the second Sunday in May and urged displays of the flag on government buildings. People are urged to write to living mothers, place flowers on graves for the dead, wear a white flower for living mothers or two for deceased ones.
