Terri Venable, 17, Handley High senior and daughter of Mrs. Richard Venable, was chosen Homecoming Queen and voted best-looking girl in her class. She plans to attend Brevard College in Brevard North Carolina in the fall.
The dump truck used to haul a half ton safe from Moore's Super Stores on Rt 11 North was found in an orchard between Summit Point and Charles Town West Virginia. Parts of the safe were in the truck bed suggesting the money was removed before they abandoned the vehicle.
Boy Scouts of Troop 2 operating a hot dog stand on Handley Blvd cheer Skeeter Davis as the Firemen's parade pauses. Scoutmaster Richard Demorest signals the 18 scouts who shout a greeting and present a hot dog and Coke to the Firemen's Marshal.
Plans for improvements at Winchester Municipal Airport include a 100 by 4500 foot runway with connected taxiways and lighting. A total project cost is estimated at 667000 dollars with 50 percent federal 25 percent state and 25 percent local financing. 14 general and 9 specialized contractors have obtained plans and 12 attended the on site inspection.

A 15 year old donor's heart went to James B. Cobb of Alexandria and a kidney to William C. Kaiser of Odessa at St Luke's Episcopal Hospital. In a Friday operation a 15 year old housewife Kathleen Martin's heart was transplanted into Everett Claire Thomas of Phoenix. Both recipients did well.
Union members vote 54 680 to 30 721 approving a tentative nationwide contract with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone. About 7 700 Virginia employees gain wage increases and benefits as pickets end and service nears normal. The agreement follows broader pay raises and improved vacation, insurance and pension terms.
