Gas Company Seeks Franchise in Winchester Area
Valley Gas Company of Winchester asked the State Corporation Commission for a charter to supply natural gas to Winchester and nearby Shenandoah and Frederick counties. It would connect to the Virginia Gas Transmission pipeline 16 miles south of Winchester and lay 140 miles of line. William W. Spear filed for the charter with a contemplated maximum capitalization of 5 000 dollars. Mayor M B Clowe Jr said the city has been approached and a meeting is set for 2 pm Monday to hear the proposal.

Air Force Plane Crashes Near Fort Snelling
A C 46 twin engine Air Force plane carrying 28 University of Minnesota ROTC students and a crew of three crashed shortly after takeoff from Chamberlain Field. No one was seriously injured. The left engine burst into flames and the plane went down in the woods on Fort Snelling after about a minute aloft. The students were en route to Ames Iowa for a rifle drill meet at Iowa State College.
