Battle defends Virginia school grant policy at dedication
Gov. Battle argues the 45 million dollar school grant plan protects local control and is a temporary emergency measure. He spoke during dedication of Patrick Henry Elementary School in Martinsville, stressing construction remains a local duty and aid aims to boost postwar facilities rather than centralize schools. In Norfolk, farmers await sun as 1950 strawberry harvest opens, with Sam Hudgins Jr. noting slow sales and likely delayed market activity.
