Mrs Mollie C Fout aged 57 wife of C P Fout died after a long illness at her Gainesboro home. She was a daughter of James H Melwee. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 00 o clock at the house, followed by burial at Gainesboro Southern Methodist Church with Rev Kiracofe officiating. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Prof N D Cool chairman of District 6 appeals to Winchester Frederick county residents to back a thrift and war savings stamps campaign. School children will seek at least two dollars of stamps May 6 to 11, with Governor Davis proclaiming thrift week. Independent ward candidates announce for Winchester City Council election June 11.
All residents of Winchester and Frederick county interested in home economics and government tested recipes with substitutes are urged to attend the Handley Library lecture hall at 4 PM on Thursday May 2. Join the meeting to discuss approved recipes and substitutions.
Treasury reports total subscriptions reach 2.62 billion dollars with 62 million in the last twelve hours. Washington May 2 The War Department announced General Pershing provided a casualty list with 96 names. Eleven killed in action three died of accidents seven died of disease two died of wounds and three died of other causes. Seventy were wounded with varying severity. three missing in action. Capt Francie J Cahill Lieuts Samuel Miller and Robert H Jeffrey previously listed as missing are now reported as prisoners.
A British liner returning from France reports sinking a German submarine after a torpedo attack. The vessel fired 14 shots in a zigzag pursuit as Canadian and British soldiers awaited the Liberty loan drive in New York.
Magnus Leach and John Madigan, Nineveh residents, are held in $200 bail by Justice Fultz for grand jury action on charges of illegally transporting liquor. Madigan, injured in a Martinsburg Pike crash, faced a dismissed charge of operating under the influence. Witnesses testified of broken lug nuts and a whiskey aroma at the scene. The defendants posted personal bonds to appear when summoned.
Stewart Orndorff delivering for Anderson's meat market was struck by a Winchester Steam Laundry truck on Water Street in front of city hall. Edward Anderson, the driver, admitted crossing the center line and was detained but released on promise to stay right on the road and cover medical costs.
